Online animation drawing courses, taught live by Steff Farrar

SlowLine's animation drawing courses meet live online each week in groups of three to six. Pick one discipline, build real skills at your own pace, and take a course again whenever you want more time with it.

How courses work

From your first meeting to the next level

  1. 01

    Meet Steff

Join a live intro meeting. Steff learns about your interests, looks at your skills and answers your questions.

  2. 02

    Choose a course

Classes are skills-based, so Steff helps you pick the course that fits where you are right now.

  3. 03

    Draw live each week

Meet online at the same day and time each week, in a group of three to six artists.

  4. 04

Move up or take it again

Advance when you have shown the skill, or repeat the course to keep building. Both are part of the plan.

Course questions

Before you choose a course

Which course should I start with?

If you're new to drawing or just want to enjoy it, Drawing for Fun is a relaxed place to begin. If you're curious about animation, the Drawing for Animation Sampler lets you try four disciplines. Steff will help you choose at your intro meeting.

Do any courses have prerequisites?

Some do. Level 1 courses are the starting point for each discipline, and each level builds on the skills from the one before it. Steff will let you know if a course is the right fit before you enrol.

What if I'm not ready to move up a level?

Take the course again. Repeating a level is normal at SlowLine, and you can keep working at it until you've shown the skills to move up.

Can I take more than one course at a time?

Yes. Students are free to take as many classes at once as they like, and you can combine courses to build something like a full-time program.

What do I need for class?

Pencil and paper or a digital tablet, whichever you prefer. You also need a decent internet connection, a camera and a microphone.

When are classes scheduled?

All classes meet once a week, live online, in Pacific Time. Winter 2027 sessions: Perspective Drawing: Level 1 on Mondays from January 4, Drawing for Fun on Tuesdays from January 5, the Drawing for Animation Sampler on Wednesdays from January 6, and Character Design: Level 1 on Thursdays from January 7. Every class starts at 4:00 PM. Intro meetings are every other Friday, 4:00 to 5:00 PM, starting November 13.

Not sure which course fits?

Book an intro meeting and Steff will help you find the right first course. Questions about anything on this page? Send her a note.
